backfire
ok well i just put another 5.0 in my car and it is backfiring...i know it is the timing but when i rev it it backfires out the exhaust and sometimes out of the carb. my question is does it need to be advanced or should i take some out? when it was set at 0 degrees it would only start if i held down the gas.now it will idle but it pops. so how do i end this problem? turn the distributor clockwise?counter clockwise? i know the best thing would be to get a timing light but right now that is not an option. Thanks

RE: backfire
first make sure the distrubuter is not a tooth off. if thats right go counter clockwise until the motor pinks then come back just a little bit. then get a timing light as soon as possible so you dont hurt anything.

RE: backfire
no....you need a timing light
you have no idea where it's at , and you need a reference point
tossing darts into a closet while drunk and blinfolded doesn't get you far. get it at 10* and go from there.....he!! most parts stores loan timing lights check into it
