Default Battery charging problems...

My girlfriends Explorer is having some battery problems. It died last night at my house and i hooked it up to the batt. charger right away. It was good the next morning, but the battery gauge still reads low. I was able to drive it back to her house, but the needle keeps creeping down. I checked the fuses and they are all good. I know it could obviously be the alternator, but it could be the battery too correct? I don't want to buy a new alternator only to find out that it was just the battery itself that was the problem. Oh and I posted this here because i know you guys better than anyone else, and the 5.0 section gets more traffic. Thanlks guys.

its the alt or the voltage reg but most likely has the voltage reg as part of the alt. so anyway you need a new alt. you should be able to drive and the gauge stay right where its supposed to be with a dead battery.

ok problem solved. Take it to autozone if you have one and have them test the battery under load etc and see if there is a dead cell in it or a problem with it and then have them test the alternator. Seems simple enough, good luck! Also, i wonder if they could benefit with the 3g alt and or if they would fit?? hmm....they probably already have them tho considering there later model cars.
