Default Smog pump delete

Is it possible to remove the smog pumpon a 5.0 and not add a dummy pulley in its place?

Interesting, I'm using a 77.5" belt with a smog pump delete and my routing looks nothing like the smog delete diagram in the above link. The routing I'm using looks exactly like the stock 5.0 belt if you removed the smog pump and then just kept shortening the belt until tight (i.e. the belt is a straight shot between the alternator and the water pump, all other routing being the same as stock. It seems to work just fine, but if anybody knows of some reason that I should switch to the 84.5" belt, let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

should pass no problem. I think you mean just disconnect the air injection from the back of the heads only, right? according to the EEC-IV book, air only injects to the back of the heads during cold startup to mix better with the unburnt fuel from the rich mixture so it can burn completely in the cats. after theengine is warm, the air injects only into the cats. I passed a few years ago in NJ with 302 with 1970 351W (non emissions legal heads w/ no air injection) with high flow cats with the air injection injecting only into the cats. also had a non emission legal lunati custom grind cam. passed no prob and the readings were actually cleaner than the stock cam/heads/cats. From what I've read, you NEED the air pump if you have cats otherwise the cats will run too hot and be destroyed. I failed at first thisyear because the air wasn't injecting into the cats properly. after I changed one of the solenoids and fixed it so it injects, I passed with no problem.

(sorry posted to the wrong board)..........it is possible though to remove the pump and run a shorter belt. i actually keep the shorter belt in my car because i've had 2 smog pumps seize up and can just throw the shorter belt on now to get home. (don't know the size off hand though)

I used a idler pulley kit from jegs so the two ends of my belt didn't butt together and cause rub issues....looks clean and works good too
