Short Throw Shifter Install
Okay guys, I installed a hurst short throw in my car the other day, and i figured I would take some pics for everyone. Some of the things I did are not necessary such as removing the radio, or loosening the center console, but they made things easier and I wanted to check the condition of things. So here it is!
Stock Shifter and Hurst Shift stick and Top Plate
Pry up on the corner of the top plate with a flat head screwdriver to get it loose from the four clips that hold it in place
Pry up on the next corner
Pry up on the third corner
Slide the screwdriver down to make sure everything is loose
Pry up on the last corner
Remove shift **** by turning counter-clockwise
Shift **** removed and top plate loose
Pull up on top plate and slide it up and off the shift stick
Shifter with top plate and shift **** removed
Shifter Again
Begin removing 4 bolts holding lower shift boot in place
Removing bolt
Remove two bolts holding shift stick to shifter
Remove second bolt
Shifter Stick removed
Remove two screws holding center console down (phillips head)
Removing second screw
Remove 4 screws holding radio plate in place (phillip head)
Removing screw
Removing screw
Lower shift boot ready to be removed
Pull out lower shift boot
Stock Shifter with boot removed
Remove 4 bolts holding shifter down
Removing bolts
Grip Shifter and pull up to remove from transmission
Pull shifter up and into cabin of car
Transmission with shifter removed
Remove gasket material from mating surface
Had to use a screwdriver and some medical kelly clamps to get all the rtv out of the bolt holes
Clean gasket surface
Apply Black Rtv to mating surface
Place new shifter on transmission
Apply locktite to bolts
Locktite on bolt
Insert 4 bolts by hand
Tighten bolts
Tighten all 4 bolts
New Shifter tightened down
New Shifter
Adjust shift stops
Adjust second shift stop
Reinstall Shift boot
Reinstall Shifter Stick
Check Shifter Operation
Slide top plate over shift stick and down and press into place
Reinstall Shift **** by turning clockwise
Place radio back into position
Tighten screws to hold radio in place
Radio and temp control bezel in place
Everything buttoned up and ready to go!

RE: Short Throw Shifter Install
Nice clear pics, thanks for doing that. I found it useful as I will be swapping the hurst I have in there for a Tri-Ax when it gets here.
Just one quick question, when you put the new shifter in, as in place it down into the tranny, do you hear a click? Basically what is the best indication that it is in correctly.
I haven't had to install a short throw before... thanks.

No, just be sure that the shifter slides into the trans. There will be no click, but once you move the shifter, you will know if it is installed correctly. Then you just bolt it down.

Ryan, you need a shorter handle bro. Nice job on the install and pics. When I have a chance, I'll throw it in the tech article section.
So how do you like the shifter so far?
