glowing headers after cam install.

RE: glowing headers after cam install.
did it make a slight whistling sound under the valve covers?
I have a whistle from somewhere, I triple checked my gaskets and all are leakproof, so there is no vacum leaks.
anyone have this be4?
are valve guides the things that seal the valves to the head?
I dont know much of cyl heads.
Ive only taken apart 1 set before and it was a chev 350,

RE: glowing headers after cam install.
Probably a "performance" timing set with 3 degrees of advance built in, so you set it for 10 but it's really at 13, or something. Try running an F cam with 30 lb injectors... I'm tempted to get a set of 24s and put the 30s on the shelf until I can afford the blower.

heres an update, I put everything back together, and it works, yaaaay
no glowing of headers, and the 24# injectors makes it run super rich, I have an a/f ratio gauge, and boy does that b cam sound good.
nice lopey idle.
I can't wait to take it out.
I used silicone on all my gaskets and waited 2 days to let it dry before filling with fluids,
oh, by the way, if you do a fuel pump, always check your connections before you put the tank back in.
I forgot to hook up my fuel lines and was in a hurry to get it together. it took me 2 hours to get them hoooked back up, I couldn't drop the tank all the way as I put 20 litres of fuel in it.
oh, well.
thanks for all the help guys, without your help I would be fuked.

RE: glowing headers after cam install.
the timing set was actually a cheapo set from partsource. I think it was only 60 bux and it came with all the timing gaskets and front seal too.
I think it was made by federal mogul.

RE: glowing headers after cam install.
no, I used an electronic stethescope to find the vacum leak, and it sounded like it was coming from the egr spacer, so I made a gasket, and siliconed it, and it still whistles.
could it be from my throttle body?
can they leak where the throttle rod goes through it?
and it is very hard to set my idle, I unplugged the air bypass thing, when engine was hot, then started it up, I set the idle, then turn the engine off. I set the tps with the key on, to 0.98v, and when I started it up it would hesitate when I give it throttle, yes I plugged back in the air bypass.
it would rev up a second after I rev it.
and the idle when driving, is staying at 2000rpm between shifts.
1 more thing, I haven't heard my car run for the winter, and the roller rockers are loud, I can't remember if this is normal.
I can hear it knocking when I drive.

RE: glowing headers after cam install.
hi guys, thanks for all the help, I finally got it running good.
the whistling was from the throttle shaft on my professional products throttle body.
does anyone know if these have a warranty?
I changed back to the stock one and all is good.
and my charging problems were fixed after I installed a 3G alternator, it is alot easier than I thought.
no more charging problems.
the only thing that sucks is I had to get rid of my electric fan, it wasn't powerful enough at only 1600cfm.
other than that when I first start it the idle jumps a little from 800-1000rpm.
I think the computer still has to learn how everything is working now.
