Possible without major fabrication??? I don't know anything about the irs mounting location stuff, i think i'd like to do the swap for road racing if it is possible.

plenty of people have done it, but you can road race a solid, just as well as you can road race an irs

You make it sound like he wanted to flush his motor with water, or port it with sand... It's not a crazy concept, and people do it because the rear ends in all the mustangs arepretty muchinterchangeable. Like primetime said though, you don't really gain much from it.

I know a guy that took it out of his snake to put a solid rear end in for running the 1/4, so he's just got it sitting there collecting dust. I hate my lincoln rear end, and i was just seeing how much of a b*tch it would be, so i'm assuming they don't share any mounting locations.

How would you not gain much from it?? The IRS is much better for corner carving than the solid axle setup, unless you've already purchased all the parts to make the 4-link [stock setup: U/L control arms] a 3-link[tq arm, panhard bar, L control arms] and actually keep the diff centered under the rear.

I've thought about it, but never looked into it. Traction/handling in corners would be drastically improved over a stock-style 4-link setup and it would be unique.

my point was you can road race a solid just as well as an irs, and the solid is much more simple to work with

I say do it. be different, but make sure you have the fabrication skills that would be involved.
