Default Trans Guys Needed...

I just lost 2nd gear in my T5. About a year or so ago I busted 3rd and replaced 2nd and 3rd with the super alloy gears and cluster. I cannot remeber to save my life how it afixed to the main shaft. I dont think the gear broke from the way it acted when it happened. It like it just popped out of gear and now nothing at all is there. No noise or anything. If you are certain as to how the gear is fixed to the shaft please refresh my memory.

It sounds like you broke your shift fork and not the gear. To get second speed gear off the shaft you have to remove the 3-4 slider hub, slide third speed gear off, and then second shoudl just slide off. If you are lucky, you can take two pry bar and lightly pry the 3-4 slider hub off, if it won't come off that way you are going to have to press it off.

It depends how it broke. It may be enough material to engage 1st and not 2nd, I have seen it before. When you put it in the 2nd gear postion what happens?

If it doesn't do anything then it either isn't getting engaged, broken shift fork, or you shelled the teeth off that speed gear and the cluster. If the transmission is quiet like you stated earlier then I don't think it can be the speed gear and cluster. If it was that, when you let out on the clutch it would be some terrible noise.

I will tear it down tomorrow and see. I hope it is just a shift fork. [:@]
