5.0 for 20$
Okay, so currently iv got a 4 banger. Im just dieing to turn it into a 5.0, get the v8 rumble, you know
well anyways, iv been told that theres a guy with a small shop by me who has a 5.0 sittin on the side of his shop. His buddy told me that he would sell me the motor for 20$, if i got him to install it. Now, ill be honest, im not a mechanic. I dont have the tools or skills to pull a motor and do a motor swap. Its one of those things where i wish i grew up with a wrench in my hand, but instead it was a computer, lol. Give me a pile of computer parts and ill build you a computer, but hand me a pile of motor peices, and i wouldnt know where to begin. Maybe ill take a class one day...
Anyways, im planning next week to go check out the motor. What i want to do is give the guy a budget and let him build the motor/install it/play with it/etc. Kinda like lend him my car as a project car, lol. Can someone give me an estimate on what the total cost to do a 4cyl to 5.0 conversion would be? And maybe what i could sell my parts for?
Heres whats done to it:
5 Lug conversion with 96gt spindles up front, and 7.5 ranger axels out back ( i know, should have gotten the 8.8's. at least i think the ranger axels are 7.5's )
And a recent full tuneup on the car with plugs, wires, new battery, air filter, fuel filter, new muffler, tailpipe, pipe from the cat to the muffler, etc.
Iv also had full body work and paint done to it.
I was planning on dropping a v8 in it in the future, but the oppurtunity just came up. otherwise, i wouldnt have done all the work to it.
Now for the 5.0 swap, i would need
Mid-pipes
The Catback Exhaust
5.0 Motor mounts
8.8' Rear end (what cars had a 5 lug 8.8?)
5.0 Driveshaft
5.0 Radiator
5.0 Fan
5.0 Wiring Harness
5.0 Computer
v8 Crossmember
and i would sell my ranger axels
my muffler and exhaust sutff i just had replaced
what else would i not need?
can anyone give me a ballpark of how much this would cost? any tips/info on what to look for/at when i go to look at the engine? thanks

4 cylDriveshaft (yes it is strong enough)
4 cyl Radiator (it is way bigger than the 5L rad so = better cooling)
4 cylFan ( pretty much the same)

You will also need a fox 5.0 oil pan and pickup tube unless this 302 came out of a fox.

You should give the guy your car and 2g's and tell him to have fun, with the money he should be able to do the swap (labor), get the little odds and ends parts needed, and get you some decent parts too (headers, h or x pipe, mufflers). Its good to see that you are man enough to admit you can't do it, if i need a computer i'll look you up lol.
