Default autometer tach wiring question...

I wired up my tachometer and got it working. Green to msd box. White to dash light fuse. Red to ignition fuse of some sort. and ground to ground.

Tachometer works until i put the dash lights on, then the tach stops working and the the tach doesnt light up. Tach is like new and i doubt the light in the tach is bad, but i tried just finding any hot fuse and getting power to light it up and i couldn't. If i shut the dash lights off, the tach will go back to working. Any idea whats going on?

not sure what you did. usually one wire on the negative side of the coil then power and ground.

idk i followed the directions i got with the tach.

There are4 wires,

1)Ignition Switched power wire(red)
2) Ground (black)
3) Switched dash lighting(white)
4) and Tach Terminal to msd and or coil (green)

ok
1)Ignition Switched power wire(red) --- splice this with something such as a cigarette lighter or something else thats only on when the car is.
2) Ground (black) -- duh
3) Switched dash lighting(white) -- headlight switch.
4) and Tach Terminal to msd and or coil (green) -- negative on coil.

Do the other dash lights still work when the tach goes out? Sounds like the white wire is connected to the wrong wire.

Only connect the green wire to the MSD box!
If you connect itto the coil it will damage the tach.

It sounds like you may have a ground problem. With the lights off it may be back feeding through that circuit to get ground. Check your ground is good.
Disconnect the light/white wire and start the car and connect a test light between the white wire and a known good ground. If the light lights up or the tach stops workingyou have a bad ground
If it's ok the tach is bad.
