Are you going to freshen up the bottom end when you do the H/C/I change? I wouldn't boreit unless it needs it. 6 cubic inches isn't going to give you a huge increase in power. Besides if your engine is a 92' or older you've got some nice forged pistons in there now. Take it to a good machine shop and if it doesn't need boring just ring and bearing it, put your H/C/I on and have some fun!

ok... i was going to say nitrous, lol... but u dont want that, thats cool...

1st... why make it a 306? if it doesnt need it, dont do it, thats money you dont have to spend(pistons)

2nd. you dont need 300rwhp for a high 12

heres what i suggest...
heads(take your pic,i honestly dont know **** about expensive heads, i cant aford them, i know i like the idea of gt40s ported though... thats my plan later on
1000
intake... cobra... something like it, gt40 or w/e... like 375 i think...
cam... your going to have to choose this one, i can make a few suggest, like you want a good idle... look for a wider lsa... my cam is 114*... which is wide, compared to an e cam at 110... look for somthing from idle to 6k... or something like that... not a big cam thats going to pull from 3-7k... comon sense really.... basically theres alot involved in cam choice.... i dont want to be responsible for telling you something wrong here, so i wont suggest anything specific, call a cam co... theyll help u out

1000 heads
375 cobra intake
255 cam
250 RRs
250-pr's, studs(if u get heads that arent stud already(i.e.gt40, etc)) guideplates
150 springs retainers and locks
200-2 step for the msd

and a few bucks left over just incase... i was also high on most of the numbers...

i hope you have a DR already, if not, better get them too

1. thanks, i was just throwing it out there as an idea
2. i know, but 300 to the wheels is my goal

see i was thinking about going the GT-40 heads route, but i don't know anyone who can do porting for me around here. and aluminum heads are always a sexier choice, plus lighter. but, power is power. i still want an aggressive idle, i want people knowing what i got, but obviosuly not too outta control. if not gt-40s are Trick Flow heads good also? obviously more expensive, but are they good?

and aren't there better intakes out there than the Cobra??

thanks for all your input dime

I had these heads:
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_131992_-1
This intake:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
This cam:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
on a stock 100,000 mile 92'302 short block and made 288 rwhp and ran 12.50s all day long. This wasa great combination, it idled good, I could run the air no problem and drive it anywhere. These parts and some gaskets should put you at your goal and within your budget. Just saying what I had and what it did.

are tfs heads good? deffinatly
are there better intakes then the cobra? for sure

do you need either? no

get gt40s, get them ported by thumper, get a gt40/cobra intake, get it ported (most machine shops do it, if not there are some places that specialize in it, ship it to them...) and get the comp xe270... i wish i could link you to another forum but i cant, someone did that exact set up and made 313 at the wheels...

or... for your budget, why not a novi1000 a power pipe and a pully swap?

Rather than start a new thread...

What kind of power increase (hp and tq) would you be looking at if you just swapped over the explorer manifold, and gt-40 P heads, with a larger throttle body (65mm).Probably stay with the stock cam for awhile. I am thinking of trading a local guy for this. My motor is stock as is... Thanks.

thumper quoted me like 599$ for a GOOD port. After you factor in the original price of the GT-40s, you could have bought a set of used aluminum heads, if not a couple hundred off of some NICE new ones. You're going to shave 60lbs off the front end, and youre going to flow better out of the box than those heads ported will....

Just a thought. but if you really want to go that route i have some GT-40ps for sale for 320$ + shipping.
