Default help with Converting to mass air

I am about to convert my 86lx to mass air. Could someone tell me where to get information on how to swap the speed density to mass air? I also am not sure as to what computer I should be using. Any help will be greatly appreciated! By the way, The car is a manual shift.

Thanks

Whats the joke? I have noticed this forum is usually very cordial. Am I doing the wrong thing if I am adding mods? I'm just looking for individuals that have experience and could give me advice. Maybe you could explain your humor?

Thanks

imjust messing with ya... everyone here will be all about the mass air swap, i think im the only, or one of maybe 2 or 3 that like SD and are keeping it... im doing h/c/i n nitrous on my SD car, and keeping it sd...

anyway to do the swap any mass air comp will work, get a mass air meter, pigtail it into the harness, dissconnect the vac from the map sensor, plug the hose... theres a write up about it in the stickies

I appreciate the info. Sorry about sounding a bit sensitive. I just want to do the right things the first time. Where is the stickies located so I can look at the article? Also, do you know which computer would be best to use? Sounds like you are a believer in speed density. Do you have info to share with me as to why speed density might be the better route if indeed you do think that. I just want to learn as much as possible.

Thanks

Don't listen to dimebag. He is a known speed density loving homosexual

Anyway, here is the site that i used when i converted mine. http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html

Its pretty easy to follow.

My conversion was pretty cheap. The a9l computer was $130 on ebay, a stock mass air meter with sensor was $10 on ebay, and the wiring harness was $35 from mustangs unlimited. Thats it, granted I boughta bigger maf later on. Anyway, the hardest part for me was running wires through the firewall, and getting to the computer out, that was quite the pain. When running wires, Poke a hole in the rubber grommet on the passenger side of the firewall where the other EEC wires go. Then tape each wire to a coat hanger and fish it down to the computer, one at a time. It sucks.

The maf conversion is an easy way to avoid problems associated with engine mods. you don't have to convert it over, but i think its harder to tune a SD system. Although if i remember right, SD puts out more power.

lol....I'll keep an eye on dimebag...Im a bit homophobic anyway! I found a a9l with stock air meter for $140. It is missing the pig tail but everything else is there. It is also a rebuilt computer....should I be concerned? I didn't know that was possible but heck...I dont know much anyway! Thanks so much for the help.....I have many more questions but Ill address those little later.

as long as its factory rebuilt i wouldn't worry about it. My conversion harness came with the pigtail in it, assuming you're talking about the little plug that hooks up to the maf
