Default tranny question from 2.3 liter to 5.0 liter

Alright everyone I had a 2.3 liter 4 cycle motor/tranny in my mustang now i'm swapping it so I have a 5.0 v8.
I read somewheres that if I just change the bellhousing (one off a v8 t-5 tranny) and put it on the tranny from the 2.3 liter it will work fine handling the 5.0 v8 anyone know if this is true?

Someone like ADDER will know more specifically but i believe the input shaft isdifferent and it definitely doesnt have the teeth to handle any real torque.

I am pretty sure the bellhousing is different between the 2.3 and 5.0but the transmission will bolt up as long as you get a different pilot bearing. If it is a stock 5.0 the transmission will be ok but it is not rated for even a stock 5.0. You can get V8 gears and put in your transmission and upgrade it to V8 standards. You will need 1st, 2nd, 3rd, speed gears, main drive and cluster. The output shaft, sliders, etc. are all the same.

you can use a 4 cyl tranny in a 5.0 and it will hold up..there are a few members on here who have run 12's with them......the only thing you have to do to run a 4cyl tranny is get the correct pilot bearing and 5.0 bellhousing...I RAN ONE FOR a week but I didn't like the different ratio's that the 4 cyl tranny had... all the ratios are lower and it felt as if it were a road race tranny.....so I swapped for a 5.0 t-5.......the torque capacity for the 4 cyl tranny is also lower than a 5.0 I believe it is rated around 240 ft lbs

mjr 46 is right, the gear ratios are different (much closer) and the toque capacity is only 240 lb-ft as opposed to 300+ lb-ft.
