Default what would cause sucha bad idle?

my 86 gt is having the worst idle in the world...seems to me it has no choke? does an 86 even have a choke tho? but it will fire and rise to 2000rpms and the drop to 1000rpms and the drop to 500rpms and just fluctuate between 1000 and 500 sometimes stalling out. if i hold the gas pedal in and hold constant rpms like 1500 for a few mins its fine after that and the idle is good and i dont have nemore problems....anyone know what can cause that?

I know that my 88GT has no choke, its idle is non-adjustable. I have looked up idle adjustment Since you go the 86 which is fuel injected like my probally is the same. I would check all your vacum hose including the pvc valve and the hose it inserts in.

yes you can adj. the idle on the 5.0 there is a screw under the T/B. the way to do it is warm the car to operational temp. unplug the IAC set the idle where you want it then shut the car off then unhook thebatt. let it sit a few mins. then hook it back up and plug in the IAC start the car and the idleshould be very close to where you set. dont forget the computer will have to re-lean a bit wont take but a few miles to do this.
