stud mount rockers?
 

Got a set of ported e7s w/upgraded springs, that are part of my h/c/i swapfor thewinter. Right now they have no rockers and I was wondering what was involved in converting them to stud mount?Isit just a matter of buying a stud kit and threading them into the heads? Seems to me that the stud mount rollers are more available then pedestil type. What would be a good stud size 7/16 or 3/8? The car is a 93GT that will be a mild street/weekend cruiser.

the part where the stud would go has to be cut down some, i forget how much, then the studs are screwed in, guideplates are always a good idea aswell and cheap.

and get 3/8 studs

Something I would need a machine shop to do? Is it worth the effort or will stockmount rockerswork for my mild build:Typhoon/ported e7s/still looking for cam but nothing crazy/70 maf/65mm tb/full exhaust/ 3:73s

worth it? imo, yes

im in a similar boat, gt40 heads, gt40 intake, and a comp cam, i have stock rockers right now, but stud mount and all is high on my list

I dont think I would spend the extra coin on the screw in studs on a set of E7s but thats just me.

Yeah, got to factor pushrods into the deal. I'm trying to stay on budget, need to keep the wife off my back, maybe I'll stay with pedestil mount.

stud conversion kits screw right into the pedestal threaded holes and allow you to use a normal style 3/8 roller rocker. no machine work required.

oh yeah, and you can get hardened pushrods for like less than 30 bucks [8D]

i'm running stock pushrods on my heads. Works no problem. If i had run better heads like AFRs or something, or a bigger cam, i would have definately bought better pushrods. For gt40s or tricked out e7s, I don't think its much of a problem.

If i were you i would throw in some stud mounted 1.6 or 1.7. You'll find that most people here are running stud mounted.

Hey dimebag, I can't wait to see a post one day of you saying "OK dammit, I'm finally converting to mass air". That will be a good day...

and the stock pushrod thing, isnt just length, its strengthening the valve train... you dont think the pushrod stays perfectly straight while your at 6k do ya? that damn thing is vibrating and flexing its ass off, so stiffer=better

and i was prty damn sure you needed to cut the seats down for the screw in studs to be at the right height... maybe you just have to cut them down for the guide plates...
not gonna rock mass air, lol...

Regular rocker studs won't bolt in. The pedistal mount heads have 5/16" threaded holes, and most studs are 3/8" or 7/16". If you want adustables, you have 2 choices. Crane Cams makes a conversion kit to go from pedistal mount to stud mount, or machine the bosses down and drill and tap for studs. I used the Crane kit and it works fine. See the link from Summit
