Timing and TPS problem please help.
1st- When setting my timing to 13 with the spout out turning the car off putting spout back in crank it up to check timing and its jumped to 20. Any Ideas why?
2nd- Trying to set TPS and it isnt reading anything it has a reading up to the connector that plugs into the TPS but when you plug it into the TPS it gets cancelled out any ideas on this.

i dunno depends on what back probing is. I ordered the thing off ebay so you dont have to puncture the wires on the tps. It has a reading coming out of the harness plug but once you plug it into the tps it loses its reading.
And on the timing if you set it to 13 without the spout in then why does it go to 20 so is it technically still on 13 even though its reading 20 and if the spout resets it so why do you have to take it out and how do you get it to stay set where I set it.

The base timing setting is just that. A base setting. When the spout is plugged back it, the ecm takes control of the timing as Joel has already specified. that is the job of the ecm. There is nothing wrong. It's working as it should.

ok then sorry I asked such a dumb question, just was double checking to make sure it hadn't moved and it was reading like 20, but thanks for the help any ideas on my TPS. The only reason I'm messing with it is cause my car runs good in 1st and 2nd but in 3rd it cuts out about 3500-4000 rpms and studders throughout the gears like it is missing or something and I cant understand why it would run good it 1st and 2nd and then not the rest any ideas on what could cause this.

RE: Timing and TPS problem please help.
You're searching for a solution in the wrong component...... if the system doesn't log a TPS failure code + you monitor TPS minimum setpoint (anything between .7 - 1.0 vdc is fine......the .9999 or .98999 setting is a myth), and the TPS voltage span from closed throtlle-to-WOT-to-Closed Throttle, and no voltage spikes/drops are present.......the TPS is fine. The problem is elsewhere.
Bad TPS = Good TPS =
Bad TPS = Good TPS =
