Car dies while driving
Hey whats up everybody got a small problem and I hope you can help. I recently took a trip from Houston,TX to San Antonio. My car died all of the sudden while I was going 80mph! I checked everything and to no avail. Once the car had cooled off it started right up and has bween running ever since but this was not the first time this has happened. I checked all my fuses and I dont have any leaks what so ever but could this be a vacuum issue?
My car is a 92 convertible with a bone stock 302. It idles fine and all I have donwe so far is add a mac cold air and a basic tune up.

RE: Car dies while driving
when it dies you need to check for spark and or fuel...to narrow it down to a system......my guess is it may be spark related like a bad tfi module and or a stator/pick up in the distributor

okay I will do that. Though I did change the plugs and wires and most of the sensors in the engine bay when I bought this car 4 months ago. I will change the rotor in the distributor and see if this helps. If this is still a problem what will I be looking for on the spark plugs? What is the tfi module? stator/pick up?

RE: Car dies while driving
buy a spark checker and when it dies pull a plug wire and hook the spark checker in line and see if the light flashes or if the plug sparks...depending on the type of spark checker you buy..I have one that has a aligator clip and looks like a spark plug so it sparks when spark is present...the tfi/ignition module is bolted to the side of the dizzy ....the pick up is inside the distributor ..whose correct name is a hall effect sensor that ID's tdc on the cylinders and in turn this info is used by the tfi module and sent to the ecm to determine when to fire spark and interpreted bythe ecm as to when the injectors need to be fired...this is a generic description of what these items are and are used for in a nut shell

replace your ignitionmodule. That happened to me about a year ago. I was doing 75 on the highway and it cut off. then it started back up again about 5 minutes later. I got to where i was going, then when i went to start the car, it wouldn't start, eventually it did. Replaced the ignition module, and i haven't had a problem since.
its like $30 at autozone i think

Sounds like tfi to me. Heat causes them to go out & bad, you can remote mount them on the fender if you like, or somewhere cooler than right above the engine.
You'll need a special tool to take it off unless you got a socket set with some very very thin walls. The tool is cheap though if you dont. I think I bought mine for like $2 or $3
