Default Want start, timing???

Need some help, I had to pull my distributor to pull my lower intake off. Well I think I have mucked it the timing and she will not start. I don't have a timing light and don't even know how to use one... So what can I do to fix this mess I've done. I didn't know to get #1 TDC or any of the other crap until it was to late.

Can anyone give me advise on what to do and how to fix. If you don't mind keep in on a 1st grade level, I'm just a want to be that don't know chit about timing...

Thanks...

its actually simple just take out #1 plug rotate crank until u hear and feel air coming out of the hole this is compression stroke and turn it til u reach TDC. if u go past dont turn back youll put slack in the timing chain. then line the rotor to the number 1 spot on the cap and stab it. if its off or wont start good chances are your off a tooth just take out the distributor and turn in a tooth back and that should be all u need

Still questioning myself... How do you know #1 is TDC for sure? Is this just something you feel/hear, nothing to see right? And rotoating the crank how? And when you have it TDC and you are ready to line the rotor up with the #1 plug do you just lift the distributor turn/line up and then put it back in?

Sorry for the questions, just not 100% sure of myself here...

its fine i just went through this on my 86 when i did the head gaskets. turn the crank clockwise and once u feel the air( stick your finger in the first plug on the passanger side ) watch your harmonic balancer and turn in slowly til u hit 0 so u dont pass it. and once its at TDC line the rotor up with the #1 on the cap and when u drop it in it will turn some what and thats the gear meshing with the gear on the front of the cam. and yes excactly right on the last thing just make sure u dont cut up the o-ring cause oil will come upthrough that hole and it will get messy. and make sure u have it all the way seated too. turn the car on or try and if i doesnt then its a tooth off just lift off and turn alittle bit left or right however u did it and then once it starts make sure u set it to 10 if u want stock or go 12 for alittle more punch at the start. also make sure u have all the wires right and going to the right clyinders
