Default Spark plugs & wires

Ok, I'm gonna try re-posting this thread here... I didn't get many responses in the 5.0 section.

Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding spark plug wire sets and the spark plugs themselves. I'm probably going to insure my GT again soon, and I'm gonna need to do a tune-up right away. I'm looking to replace the plugs along with the wires this time. So my questions are, what size spark plug wire set should I go with? I've been researching some sets online, and I've noticed a lot of 8 mm and 8.5 mm ones, and I've even heard of Mustangs using 9 mm. I sorta assumed I'd buy MSD wires. On the plugs, I'm wondering what brand name to go with (if it matters) and then what KIND to get (copper, platinum, etc)?

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

I don't think it matters. Get in the zone, auto zone. Allegedly the higher priced plugs are not so good...they break off supposedly causing B I G problems.

I don't think it matters much either so long as you stick with quality parts. I use Autolite double platinums and I have Ford Motorsport 9mm wires. Works for me.

you wasted your $$$ if those are the FMS wires....you need low resit wires not bigger wires so to speak as they sometime go hand n hand

So would it be a better idea to go with MSD 8.5 mm or Ford Racing 9 mm? They both have a resistance of about 40-45

you don't need to spend a bunch of money on special wires and plugs unless you have done some modifications to the engine or the ignition system to increase the spark plug ouput energy. the stock type wires and stock type plugs will work just fine for you until you really start making major mods.

rd...why buy them twice might as well get a good set....look at these kids paying 80.00 for plugs the msd is like 45-50 a nice wire and has a better jacket on the than does the easly burnt FMS ones' I use holley wires they have 25 ohms per foot

FMS= Ford Motorsport. The 9mm insulation is important if you are running higher voltages. You need the insulation to prevent cross arcing from one wire to the next. Granted, any 8mm will probably work fine but the extra insulation doesn't hurt. I have an MSD box on mine with the 9mm wires and all is good. Someone out there mentioned that they had an MSD coil...keep an eye on it. Mine crapped out after two years. The case disintigrated and the spark was arcing out the coil bracket. I got stuck in my driveway one day when I went to use the car. When I looked at the coil closely I could tell that the material used to encase the coil was cheap. Nothing like the OEM coil. That's the second aftermarket coil that didn't last.....the other was a Jacobs (on a different vehicle).
