It's suppose to give you a little more bottom end and a little more vacuum at idle. Most cam companies grind the 4 degrees of advance into the cam,so if you install it without using an adjustable timing gear it will allready be advanced, but you need to read the cam spec card to make sure.

Did you degree the cam in with a degree wheel or just advance it 4 degrees on the crank sprocket?

Advancing a cam, in general, will hurt top end in favor of bottom end. You will get a noticible increase in bottom end and wont notice much in top end... but you better be sure you need to before you do.

If the company you purchased the cam advised you to install it 4* advanced, then do it. Your not gonna f*ck anyting up either way, you just may have to reinstall the cam if it runs like a$$

Well, you don't HAVE to degree the cam, but degreeing the cam simply means to checking to ensure the cam matches the specs on the cam card, and ensuring your cam gives the desired lift and duration with everything bolted up. Rarely is a cam misboxed or your cam or crank gear mis-idexed etc, but a good engine builder will always be safe and degree the cam. By degreeing, you also find the intake centerline, ensuring you know whether you need to advance the cam or not.

But hey, I can't tell you I have degreed every cam I put in, and in all honesty I only degreed the first one I ever did (shhhh just between us) in a car (I do degree all my kart racing engines though . The only reason I degreed the kart motors was because of having to meet WKA specs, and vavtrain variation will give different lift and dur even with the same cam.

You'll be fine as long as you needed to advance it. If you didn't need to and the advance was already ground into the cam, then you just lost about 10 hp.
