Default Higher revs & top speed

i would like to know how to gain a higher top speed than 140mph. also do higher revs mean more speed? basically i want exotic type of performance out of my 5.0. im not looking for insane horsepower like 1,000hp or any thing. but i always wondered about higher (safe) revs and increased top speed.

Higher revs do not guarantee more mph. For one your AOD is holding you back, a 5 speed would help, a switch to 3.27 gear would be a help in getting more mph's. Also you are going to need to the do exhaust, heads, cam, and intake for more top end speed. I understand the college budget, been there and done that. Enjoy your car get through college with reliable transportation, get a good paying job and then trick that pony out!! I split my block doing 130 mph on what seemed like a tighter budget than when I was in college.

you should be more worried about how the car is going to handle at speeds like that then how to get there.

The originalpost is not based in reality...

You have a 17 year old car.
It's all stock.
You want to be able to go faster than 140mph!
You're on a student budget.
Performance costs BIG money.
Where are you safely going to travel at 140+mph?

My exotic Lotus Esprit turbo is the kind of performance you're expecting out of a 91 Mustang.
I've spent $30,000 to get my 86 Capri to perform at that level.
If you want exotic performance... start saving is allI can say, because you're either going to have to buy a true exotic or spend lots of money in mods for your Mustang.

thanks all yes this is just a thought. i love my car as is now. this is just for future reference after college a when my career is under way. i know in order to get exotic performance major cash is needed. i also know as a muscle car, handling is a major deal when seeking performance. thanks for the info.

How is it that you got your 5.0 up to 170 mph? Highest I've ever heard out of a fox is around140 mph.

Ya that sounds about right for a new 5.0, now allow for 20 years of degradation to the car and I bet you half the 5.0's out there can't go higher than 140.

Pay attention y'all he said he had subsantial mods through out the whole car. besides a stock 302 with the right gear in a purpose built trans and rear end ie: superspeedway nascar scaled down. a 5.0 would probably do more than 140 once it was wound up.
