Chokes work great, and a properly set choke with a well tuned carb should have no starting issues. Mine fires over with 1 pump of the throttle and 1 turn of the starter, even when it's 15deg F outside. It's nice to go inside and drink a cup of coffee while the car warms up.

Even without any choke, the car fire's right up instantly, but i do have to tap gas while its running for a minute or two.

alright, ya this is the first carburator ive ever dealt with. I'm the one who has to sit out there for 5 minutes waiting for it to warm up and i need to fix this. I think im gunna try and grabs some books or something and read up on them, but i got a question for you guys. My carb has a manual choke, so would it start much easier with an electric choke, and can i convert it to electric? Is there a way to adjust the manual choke or anything?

Back in roddin day's people would put a **** inside the car to choke till it warmed up. Kinda like a mower, you pull it out while it's cold then push in when it warms up.

a properly setup electric choke works VERY well. you can adjust how long it keeps it choked, and how high you need it to idle while it IS choked

I saw conversion kits in JEGS for manual to electric choke, but im not sure how in depth that project would be and if itd ever be able work properly toevendo anything, anyone do this conversion or have info on the cable choke thing?
