Default AODE No Reverse

I have a 95 5.0 auto that the reverse is out in. The guy I bought it from wrecked it last year when he got it stuck in the snow and proceeded to jam it between Drive and Reverse while pumping the throttle to get it unstuck. Drive works, but reverse doesn't feel like it is engaging, I shift it in reverse and it just doesn't go... I am guessing he blew the valve body/bodies? Anything else I should know, or is there a way I can tell what happened? I haven't driven it any farther than a few miles, and havent looked under the car very close either... I am thinking about dropping the trans filter and draining the fluid to see what it will tell me, but I don't think that will help. It's not grinding, it just won't go. Any info would be helpful, thanks.

There are a ton of things that could cause the trans to loose reverse. The guy that owned it before you sure didn't do the trans any favors when he was banging the gears in it. It would most likely be either the reverse clutches are burned out or the reverse planetary assembly is damaged. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unless you know how to tear down the tranny and repair it, your goin to need to take it to the tranny shop and plan on dropping some coin. There isn't much your going to be able to do by pulling the pan that's going to help fix it, about all you can do is look to see if there is clutch parts in it. If you see large chunks of clutch, or lots of dust you know it the clutch. If you don't see too much or you see some metal parts in the pan it's probably the planetary. Either way is going to need major repair.

Usually when you loose reverse your trnsmission is on its way out. You could add an additive that would cause the bands to swell to help the transmission to engage. That is a temporary fix, the transmission will need to be rebuilt. I have went through 2 AOD's when I hada 86GT that had minor mods done to it. I just drove it too hard and the transmission would not hold up. I eventually put a Tremec in it and never had anymore problems.

one of my friends reverse went out and he coninued to drive it to and from work for a week, it was about 10 miles each way, and then on his way there it completly gave out and would catch. yours could be on the way out too so try not to drive it any far distances.
