306 block build
 
i jus bought a 1971 mustang 302 block bored .30 over making it a 306. im new with this stuff and i just bought it because i got a good deal and i figured id build it and drop it in when its done to make some decent power. so i have a new stock crank and rods but i need some pistons. im gonna go with Hypereutectic's which should be fine as long as their intended for high performance applications and not just stock replacement right? and i get 4.030 right? but what i dont know is the rest of the specs i need to know like exactly what pistons would work so i dont mess up and order the wrong ones. what is thestroke and what type of piston like flat or domed top, valve reliefs or not. keep in mind im looking to get as much power as i possibly can on a budget. should i get new rods or are stock rods strong enough? i need to no like exactly and as for heads i was thinking about going with a set of stock 351 heads but i dont know what to go with for lifters and what kind of cam would i need to use that would work best woth that. i have an edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold and a holley 4bbl carb its 625 cfm i believe. so if anybody has any tips feel free im open to all suggestions it would be greatly appreciated if someone could list what i should get thanks!

Is the block fresh from the machine shop?
If not you should have it cleaned and checked out.
It would suck to build it all up and later find out it is cracked.
Talk to themachine shop, theywill help you get the correct pistons and set you straight on the other incidentals.

it wasmachined last year and its been in an engine bag since then so ya its rdyy to be built

you should always have the block bored and honed to match the pistons being used. that being said, when things are just bored .030 its usually taking into account clearance for a "normal" piston.

the best bang for the buck slug is the sealed power / federal mogul hyper flat tops with the coated skirts. you can pick up a set for about 125 bucks with moly rings and they will do you just fine unless you decide to do some heavy spraying or forced induction.

just gonna be naturally aspirated. but i wanna make some pretty good power like 350+ idk what im gonna do to get that yet any suggestions gotta keep things on a budget

i was just looking and these look like pretty good ones http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=skuwould they work with stock rods and351 heads im gonna port and polish the heads if that matters
