How to check coil output?

I will be checking my TPS voltage soon, and thought I might as well see how the ignton is doing.

1. How do I go about checking the coil output with a volt meter?
2. What is the ideal output?

Thanks a lot.

RE: How to check coil output?

Why would you want to check the TPS if the system doesn't have a TPS failure code logged? .... you would need a scope to check the coil output in kV's.

without a scope about all you can do is check power to the coil and perform a resistance check via a ohmmeter or if you want to see if the coil is putting out spark pull the wire to the dizzy and place a spark checker inline...that'll indicate whether or not you have spark but not strength of it:D

Stick your tongue on it and have a friend turn the car over.
