R.Barn, Adder, MJr you guys will know this
I am finally building my stang and i have a quick question about the extra oil ring that comes with the 347 kit. these are definitely spring type rings and i know they go under the oil retaining rings BUT. are they supposed to over lap. all of them do it the same and i cant think of a way to check the gap and file them so here are some pictures and you guys let meknow if im just retarded....bear in mind this is my first ground up build

RE: those with ground up build experience
What did the ring and piston directions say? You did read the directions?
I believe that extra ring is to support the lower oil ring, due tothe ring landsintersection with the wrist pin bore. I wouldn't think you need to file fit it or the oil rings for that matter.
I could be wrong as different manufacturers have different instructions.
You should follow the manufacturers instructions.
If the other rings seem excessively large maybe you have the wrong ring set.

I guess that definitely could be possible. they definitely dont seem like file to fit cause they compress around the piston rather than against the cylinder wall. They are keith black pistons that came in a Scat kit. there wasnt really an excessive amount of instructions. I was hoping someone knew from experience

I'm posting a step by step buid up of my Capri and the engine build starts on page 8 and the rings detail is on page 9. Check it out... https://mustangforums.com/m_3538994/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm
The thick oil ring goes on first, then the two thinner gapped rings go on around it... one on top and one on bottom. They don't have to be checked for gap as long as you got the correct size for your bore.

Capri your post is without equal. I did see your ring page. helped alot the instructions for this only say where to put the dimple in relation to the oil groove. it doesnt even mention any over lap. you can see the over lap in the pics if these are to big they are WAY to big huh
