Default Tune? Megasquirt?

So, after fighting all my issues after my H/C/I install on my 91 HO, Trickflow is suggesting that I get a tune to see if my issues go away with the stumbling, very rich condition, and my miss. So I call up a place local to me called Modular Depot, and they state that it will be about 550.00 to tune the car. So I ask myself, why would I spend 550.00 on a tune for a car, when I am not 100% sure I am done modding. Because, if I decide to change mods, or add more, I would have to spend all that money again and get it re-tuned. So now the thought of Megasquirt comes to mind, and I think I am going to do this. It looks like it will cost me about 250-300 bucks, and I can tune it whenever I want. I guess the two questions that I was hoping to get answered are the following:

1 - Will megasquirt be able to control my electric fan and turn it on at a temp that I set.

2 - Will it be able to control and monitor the fuel mixture with the factory O2 sensors, or do I need to install widebands.

I have helped a few others install megasquirt before in other cars, but have really never got to deep in it. Other than that, I think I am dead set on this. Hopefully, tuning the car will get rid of all these stupid issues that are pissing me off.

Well this may help you also, the reason the tune costs so much the first time is cause you are paying for the chip for your computer. Once you have the chip they will be able to put whatever tune you want on it. I have a chip in my car with a custom tune, and it made my car come alive, and I have already taken it back and had some changes made for a small fee.

Thanks for the info. That will save me 20 bucks and a hack job that I was going to do for my electric fan.

I am learning the EFI stuff. But the reason I bought this car was to learn more about them. I mean I know a lot about how things workmechanically, but this will be my first time messing with the electronics/tuning of a car. I'm sure I will run into issues throughout the way, but I have a lot of very skilled friends, that know a lot about different parts, so I hope to be able to figure it out. Not only that, but what would be the fun of a project car if I let others do the work for me .

As long as you have some friends that know what they are doing ..........

EFI tuning has a STEEP learning curve. More to it than you would think.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I mean, I know it will be a lot of work, but I think it will be the best option for the long haul. Plus I can learn about this stuff in the process.

It's no rocket science for sure.
Trust me the guy up at the tune shop is no genius.

If you're willing to put in the time and start reading everything
you can find on the subject, you'll get there eventually.
