Default '87 AOD shifter

I have a '87 GT 5.0 with AOD, I'm told I have the wrong stock shifter in my car, it came with it when I bought it 3 1/2 yrs ago.

Is it the right or wrong shifter, whats it out of then?

that looks like the base out of one in a 89 aerostar van with the mustang handle...
probes also had that same shifter so it may just be outta one of those

According to this add it fits a Mustang 4cyl, is there a differance between a 4 cyl shifter and a 5.0 shifter? Are the trannydifferent?

A 5.0 shifter only has OD, D and 1 on the shifter.
You definately have the A4LD 4 banger shifter but if it works dont mess with it.
Ive got a stock AOD shifter Im not using if you need the right one.

just get the B&M rachet shifter for the AOD......it'll perform so much better and have the race feel to it

PJB, I thought it would be the wrong one, it answers a problem or two I have, it doesn't let the OD work, when in OD, I have to have it half way between OD & D to work, and my passing gear shift pauses some times.
What do you need for your shifter?
