Big question...kinda
hey everyone, been a long while since i've had to come here....
i used to own a 86 5.0 with an auto tranny.
i now own a crappy lil 3.8 95 mustang.
i've had to use it for winter driven cuz i can't afford anything else and it's been hell lol.
it gets stuck really easy from what i'm guess is a mix of the all season tires and no wieght in the back end. so the other day on christmas i was out on my grandparen'ts farm and i left around midnight. so what happened? i got stuck in the lane. took me about 20 mins to get it out and when i got it out it seemed to wanna die on it's own at first it would try to keep it's self running but the longer it stayed on the more i had to hit the gas to keep it alive. i also noticed a slight clicking noise coming from the engine. so i figured somewith was up but i had to get home. the whole drive home it was gutless. i could step on the pedal and it would reach 115km/h if i was lucky. and if i put it into neutral or took my foot off the gas it started to turn it's self of instantly. so by the time i got home the clicking noise was loud and scary to the point i thought it was gonna blow up...and it wouldn't stay started without the gas being pushed...( oh the oil pressure gauge would be a 0 or w/e with the gas not being pushed but if i stepped on the gas it would go into the normal range) and it was getting harder to start. so i got a guy to somewhat look at it and he thinks i blew the bottom end of my motor.
now we're deciding what to do with it. i can get the old motor from my 5.0 from the junk yard for around 500$... the guy said i'd need the auto tranny from it though.... now would that be a problem putting a auto tranny into a manual one. also would it be worth the swap? would it be hard what other things will i need from the old car for this too work? i was gonna just buy the whole car back but they won't sell it because it's been written off... if anyone could help it'd be greatly appreciated... if i can just use the v6 manualy tranny on the 5.0 86 engine i think that'd be even better.

RE: Big question...kinda
i think you can use the tranny you have, i believe the v6 5sp's were t5's which will bolt up.
altho your gonna need to change the computer and crap to make the motor work, as well as a new kmember to bolt it to.
but get it checked better before you do anything drastic.

RE: Big question...kinda
You can slap that t-5 on it with no problems! The only thing is that you might need a flywheel because I do not know if the 3.8 is balanced the same as the 5.0. BTW Just go carb, it is easier

RE: Big question...kinda
The T5 the V6 got is the same as the 5.0L uses. Also, the 94-95 V6 got the same K member as the 5.0L, so there's no need to upgrade. I'd get a newer 5.0L though. MAF is much easier to deal with when compared to the old SD motors.

RE: Big question...kinda
because i dunno what a explorer one would be worth. i know i can get the 5.0 for somewhat cheap and know it runs good cuz i used to drive it.... how hard is it to switch the comp stuff to make the engine work?
