poss. msd 6a bad or tfi?
ok i was driving all around today car was running fine. had it on the highway for the first time since i got the rear back. got it up to maybe 110-120. that was fine but when i finally came off the highway, maybe like 2 min later the car sputtered like it was out of gas. so i let off and it was ok, got back on it and it sputtered again, then let off almost like an explosion and shut off. i thought the motor blew but it still cranks and i have fuel but no spark. the msd has been on the car for about 8 yrs or so and the tfi is a few yrs old. which should i look into first?

Personally I'd check the coil..perform a resistance check via an ohmmeter and see if any of the windings are open...if all looks good pull the coil wire off the cap and try and start the car with a spark checker inline..if it produces spark then there is either a bad cap or rotor..if no sparky spark then it's either a tfi module or stator in the dizzy...but since you got msd ignition you need to go to their website and go to the troubleshooting section and look for the msd 6 series section and follow instructions on how to troubleshoot msd ignition to rule out a bad box

i just replaced the coil like 3 weeks ago. its a blaster 2. im going to just replace the tfi to start with. everything on the car is old so it wont hurt to have a new one neways.

ok just changed the tfi module and that wasnt the problem. im going to have to test the msd now or i might just replace it neways since its so old. any other tips are appreciated.

did the test for the box and its no good. should i replace with a 6a or should i get a 6al. i want to be able to just swap these out. will the wires match up with a 6al box.

they should match up the only difference on a 6al is it's internal rev limiter built in..but just check the wiring diagram before install to be 100 percent sure
