RE: 87-93 5.0 guys/gals
Just remember, lets say u bought ur maxima for 25-30 grand. I bought my stang for 6800 with only 52k miles on it). Now how fast and good lookin my car would be if spent the difference in price on engine and appearance mods? And take note of the technological advances that took place between 1993 and 2003, thas the reason the stock 0-60 times favor the maxima.
BTW those maximas are some sweet looking cars, nice pick.

RWD will anilate FWD from a dig any day. AWD is way better than a stock RWD, but a built up rear end on a RWD with some slicks would smoke an AWD in my opinion.

I drive a 2k3 Nissan Maxima, with 255hp out of a 3.5 V-6. It is listed at 6.3 secs 0-60, but with the new Yokohamas I've hit 60 in 6.28

haha, i like how you gave the tires credit for the .02 second drop in 0-60 those things are nice though. i've worked on jap cars for a while now and that's one of the fastest stock cars to come through the shop.

In stock form, the 5.0 is a dog off the line thanks to Fords excellent (sarcasm) pick of rear gears. With very few mods, 60 comes up really fast.
I could tell you that this car is the most fun car I have ever owned. I still have the comforts of today with my CD player, A/C, P/S, CC, etc. AND I can listen to the echaust growel at WOT! They were way ahead of their time, and will be around for a long time!
Most of that cannot be said for any other car of the time period, and that Maxima won't live up to that reputation.

91 Hatch, I love the ride that you've got in your sig. This is exactly what I'd like to find and just keep it for years as a fun car. Come on now though, Maxima won't live up to its reputation? The VQ engine is at the top of it's class for about 10 straight years. It is great looking, well apointed, roomy, comfortable and fast. I'd say it has been living up to the rep, especially over the last decade.
But you can't compare the two... one a 2-door sports coupe, the other 4-door family sedan. I was just saying that aside from sweet looks I want a V8 Mustang for speed and fun. So if it isn't going to push me back in the seat any harder than my Max, it kind of defeats the purpose.
sc351W, FiveOhNo - thanks for the props. Those tires are sweet and gummy I swear I can't make them squeel in a corner.

In 93 Ford dropped the advertised output of the 5.0 to 205 in addition to swapping out the forged pistons for hypers. The 92 and older had forged pistons and 225hp. The drop is rumored to have been to increase the Cobra's status, as well as make the year to year comparison with the incoming 94 sn95s look better. 92 and older had 225 from the factory.
With as little as AFR 165cc heads, 1.7 rockers and a switch to a demon carb (and performer intake iirc) Carcraft was able to get 325hp or so out of the mostly stock 5.0. I think their total cash outlay was under $1500. Add a set of 3.73 gears, good tires, and some minor suspension tweaks and you'll be flying.

Got a source? This is the first time in 2 years I've been browsing the mustang boards and the first time in nearly 28 years that I've been a car freak that I've ever heard that explination.
