How do you tell a 351w from a 302? I am going to look at a 351w to buy, but I dont want it mixed up with a 302.

casting number, looking onto the lifter valley (should say 351)

also a quick glance at the intake valley the 289/302 is about 2 inch short across than a 351w

look by the dist. if where it goes in is flush with the lifter valley then 302, if its lower then it about an inch or two, its a 351

I always use the intake width method. I can't remember the exact widths, but the intake manifoldsare something like 9" or 9-1/2" wide for the 302, and 11" or 11-1/2" for the 351. If you have a tape measure, it's easy.
