Default Engine whine

I have alot of engine whine when i rev it up. I was wondering what could be causing the noise, I do know that my power steering makes alot of noise when I turn the wheel, could this be causing any problem? Thanks

Thanks for the speedy reply, I did check the fluid, and its full. Its almost the the top of the tube where the cap is. Anything else? Could it be the pump?

if the ps fluid got too low at one point you could have burned it an caused a perminate whine... if thats the case, u need a new pump..

the whine when you rev it up sounds like a vacuum leak or something.
but i got the same ps noise when i turn too and my fluid is brown.
will be getting new pump with new fluids when i pull my motor in a month or two.

That would be one hell of a vacuum leak if you could hear it good with the engine revved.

Is your car an automatic? The transmission pump would make a noise if it was on it's way out. And if it's a stick... I'd say more than likely the power steering pump. But I've had a truck that whined and after I changed the clutch it went away. Either way the power steering pump is cheaper and easier to fix.

Yea its a stick..i dont think it would be a vacuum leak, cause its loud...its not a whoosh sound....its more like a vuuhhh.

(these are complicated terms)
