Default Grinding Gear Help From 2nd to 3rd 87 GT

Hey everyone, I have had my stang for about a year now, its got 117 kms on it, and A rebuilt eng. I have a problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd the first couple times of the day. After once of twice it is fine. I dont drive it hard and i give the clutch plenty of time to do its work. Is this a common problem with the 87 5 speed manuals.
Thanks for the help.
Andrew

yeah its your syncros, that happened to my 5.0. you either need to get a new tranny or just a simple rebuild. you can buy the kit to rebuild it for a couple bills

Try double clutching it. If this stops the grind then your syncros are out. What I mean by double clutching is mash the clutch twice before shifting gears. This gives the syncros a chance to do their job.

Iv done some research and checked out some sites (canadian). I saw rebuild kits for 2-3 hundred, but it didnt say wether or not the syncros are included. I also saw a 3rd gear for the T-5 tranny, would that fix my problem or is it more complicated then that. Id prob have to go to Mr transmission to get it done wouldnt I.
Sorry for the amateur questions, but im still a young guy just learning all i can.
Thanks

In a typical rebuild kit you don't get synchros. What you probably need are the bronze blocking rings. Many people mistakenly call the blocking rings, synchros. Being that they are bronze they do wear out and thus they are included in most rebuild kits. The blocking rings are part of the synchronizer assembly.

Double clutching means push inpedal shift into neutral let pedal out than in again as you shift into third.Thats how you shift the big semi trucks because they have no syns in their trans. Its not mash it to the floor twice before you shift[sm=bustedsign.gif]
