for the harry home owner yes it may work but out in the field I have to be 100% accurate on repair verification = no comebacks or I lose money...it all boils down to how accurate you want the diagnosis vs repair to be....either way you can do that methood at home

i replaced the battery and alternator cuz the battery kept dying.
i replaced the one (battery) it was sold to me with and it died like in two days.
i replaced it again and bought a new alternator. the battery has lasted
for a good while now (~a week). i know think it`s the starter
because of the noise i keep hearing, and the fact that my dad couldnt start it a day agao and i started it yesterday on 3
non-consecutive ocations.

what do you mean by hood light? how do you uninstall it?
also are test lights available at say napa?
THE PROPER WAY TO check for a parasitic draw is to use a multimeter set to the amps function.....and why not a test light???? because when you have a draw of lets say slightly over a 100 milliamps vs the safe max spec of 25-50 milliamp..then it'll be very difficult to determine if you've eliminated all of the draw....a test light will work for a large draw but not very accurate for small ones......so pull out your ammeter and remove the neg battery terminal and hook the multimeter/ammeter in series and if there is no draw on the battery at rest you should get a reading of 25-50 milliamps max.....make sure all doors are shut..glove box light and trunk light off and sunvisor lights off and under the hood light unplugged when checking for a parasitic draw
ok guess il go buy a multi meter
what do you mean by "hook it up in seiries thoug?
so if the multi meter dtects no abnormalities what would the next step be?

either way you look at it...a multimeter is a good investment for testing alot of stuff...like voltage drop, resistance, amperage, ect ect....anyway hooked in series means one lead from the meter will get hooked to the neg battery cable while the other lead of the meter goes to the neg post of the battery.....set the meter to amps and see what it reads.......if it's with in spec of 25-50 milliamp draw then you'll need to have your charging system checked and your battery checked for a possible bad cell...but I doubt that is the issue if it's a new battery as long as it's a good quality one and not a wal-mart "never start" battery
