I'm sure there's not much wrong with using a sealant, but I personally won't use them. I used some in my radiator on my truck to stop a tiny leak and over time it ended up gunking up my radiator so much that I would overheat if I went over 60mph. I ended up having to get a whole new one because there was no way I could flush the old one. My brother also used some when he blew a head gasket on his old Caprice but that only lasted a couple weeks before it was leaking again.

I'm sure others have had better experiences than me though.

best case...it works...worst case...gunks up water passage in the block and creates disaster. It will destroy your rad/heater core in very little time.

i believe i may be having a head gasket leak and was looking around and seen those engine sealants that supposidly seal head gasket leaks and other leaks permanently... does anybody know if they are worth trying or if they work at all? thanks for the help
It may work but I wouldn't risk it. More then likely you will just gunk all your coolant passages in your block, heater core, radiator, and water pump. So now you'll have to pull your motor disassembly it to get the block hot tanked. Replace the radiator, wp, heater core (pull the dash), and have your block honed and replace the rings (at minimum).

Or you could spend 2 days, pull the heads, take them to the machine shop to be milled smooth and cleaned ($75-$100) and buy a gasket kit ($50-$100). Personally I would do it this way.

its funny that you brought this up and my responce was just becareful with it i think i have a blown head gasket now. everytime i let off the gas and coast it sounds like the right side head is chirping pretty nicely. i remember my brothers 65 having a blown head gasket and making the same noise. i also had to drive from jersey to boston yesterday like that and my temp gauge would go from 170 to 200 and then drop back down pretty fast did it like 5 times it was pretty scary
