Never flushed an engine this way...
Was telling a buddy of mine that I was about to flush the radiator this week and put a new thermo and coolant in. He said that on his fox he use to turn the hose on full and pull the pitcock on the radiator then actually turn the motor on and let the water pump flush the block and system.
I never heard of turning the motor on. How fast would the engine overheat? He is just full of it? I was curious so figured I would ask here.

RE: Never flushed an engine this way...
they make flush kits by prestone to do what your friend did and in one of the heater hoses you splice in a connection supplied by the kit and do such and when the water runs clear out the top of the radiator the system is flushed...then you drain the radiator of all the water and add a straight mix of coolant cause there will be just water in the block after such a service and then start car and run..let water mix with coolant and then check the specific gravity/dilution of the antifreeze and adjust accordingly

I did that, I put the garden hose in the hot side(before it flows across the radiator) and turned the engine on, let the engine get warm up and the upper radiator hose pointed to the ground, careful cuase boiling water will be flying around, keep an eye on the temp gauge(I didnt have a problem) I spent maybe 15 minutes like that till the water was coming out clean
