Default rear end

how many quarts does the rear take or what do i fill it up too? also how can you tell what rear you have??

An 8.8 Rear takes just under 3 quarts. There is a fill hole on the front drivers side just above the webbing. You fill with fluid until you can fill it through that hole.

An 8.8 will have a square looking diff cover and a 7.5 will have a more ovaled one. If you have an 89 that is a factory 5.0 you have an 8.8. Factory 2.3 is a 7.5. These rears can be transplanted though but no one would put a 7.5 behind a 5.0 (that is someone with some sense).
