B/c it was designed to have a base from which it works from. Just like spark plugs have to be set at a certain gap, it's kinda the same thing.

Your car should have run really slow w/ very poor throttle response setting it at 10 w/ the spout in. The timing would be far retarded more by doing it that way.
Ahh I see, thanks for clearing that up. So say you bump your base timing to 14 degrees, the computer just works from there instead of from 10?

Yeah Idk what to say about me setting the timing with the spout in, it seemed to run fine. Ran 14.3 @ 98 stock.
