Default Ram Air Vs Cold air

what would ultimatly be more benifical for my 5.0

I have a Ram Air Intake on it currently from the PO I think it looks pretty good and all, but I'm just curious

Ive heard that the ram air is at its best when the car is going at least 80 miles an hour, now does this hold true for both the ram air intake that mounts under the bumper and the functional Ram Air hood?

or would a BBK cold air intake be more benifical for my car? If I can afford it this summer, I want to get a larger MAF and TB anyway....

Aight, i'm not a major expert on this but ima take a stab at it. From what i've been told, Ram Air and Cold Air intakes do roughly the same thing. And in the end you get roughly the same HP gains from each. I've also heard Ram Airs cause ur air filter to get dirty alot quicker and like you said don't do as much at lower speeds. However a Cold Air intake is constantly bringing cooler fresher air to your engine. So I would opt for the cold air.

They're actually both a form of cold air, since neither is drawing hot engine compartment air. Ram air only "rams" to the point of making any measurable power gains once you get into triple digit speeds, and even then it's negligable. So yeah, in terms of power they both do about the same thing. Depending on how they're set up one may get dirtier faster than the other. I have a ram air scoop on mine and live in the country where there is a LOT of corral dust in the air, and my filter stays reasonably clean. Cleaner than if it's exposed to the dirt/heat in the engine compartment actually. It's a reusable K&N though, so if it gets dirty, just clean it.

This is just my opinion but I am going to share it. I think if you dont care about looks then cold air intakes are pretty much worthless. The stock 5.0 with the air silencer removed is a cold air intake. So just grab a decent filter like a k&n, drop it into the stock housing, and remove the air silencer and your set. You will see the same gains as spending 100-200+ dollars on a cai. However it may not bring the bling to the engine bay, but if its a daily driver and not a show car, does it really matter?

Just my 2 cents. Let us know how things turn out. As far as ram air goes, I have never really cared for it.

ram air forces the issue...CAI takes it from inside the fenderwell.....either one will work..ram air forces filter cleaning moe often and scoops up bugs and leaves from time to time

I got a moroso ait intake kit, pulls air from the fenderwell and was proven to beat the stock box with KN. Email me, if interested.

U know shelty, I've always wondered what would happen if I ran a hose from my air vents to the intake and just ran the ac on ice cold the whole time. Theorize if you will, but someone has had to have tried it.
