Default trying to find a leak

ok guys im tryin to figure out the dynamics of my engine so i can pinpoint where and what my leak is. when you first start up your car...and it hasnt heated up yet so the thermostat hasnt opened. is the water in ur engine still cirulating since the water pump is turning?...

Yes, it just bypasses the radiator and only circulates through the heater core.
