302 build......order from summit question
Im just about ready to order this re-ring kit from summit racing.
Its for my 85 GT. The car is carburated and hasnt been bored. I just want a kit with all the gaskets, rings to do each piston and rod bearings for each piston.
I wanted to go with federal mogul so i narrowed downmy search to this page, but cant decide from here?
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=sku&RC=10
I beleive im just going to with the first one thats $130.69, it doesnt have my year car to click so im not sure if this kit will be exactly right.
I'm just worried about the gaskets, and the fact that my cars carbed, im not sure if this would be different from other years?
Which will fit my application, any idea?

Not to hi-jack this thread, but when is it approprate to justa re-ring kit like this, vs a master re-build kit with some machine work to clean up the cylinder walls (small bore)and polish the crank?

RE: 302 build......order from summit question
when the parts are out of spec.
the easy way to check your cylinders is to see if you can catch your fingernail on the ridge at the top. its not an exact science but its something people have gone by for a long time. if you can't catch your nail you can probably just take the ridge out with a ridge reamer and then hone the cylinders.
to the OP:
there are only a couple things that are different between any 302 gasket set. the later model / EFI applications will have the lower to upper intake gasket and other various different EFI related gaskets, they will have a 1 piece rear main seal, and they may have better valve seals. everything else is the same.
hell even if you have a 1 piece (i always forget what year ford changed over but i know its early/mid 80's) its cheaper to get the early set and then buy a rear main seal separately.
