Electric door lock problems
Hello guys new to the forums and the ownership of a Ford. I just purchased
my '90 GT covertible and I ma having some problems with the door locks. Both
doors seem very hard to turn the key in the lock, and the passenger side electric
lock is make a very strange noise and only works some of the time. Are these models
known for door lock problems, and what kind of information can you give me to work
out my problems. Thanks.

RE: Electric door lock problems
I just replaced my door lock actuator yesterday, its a pain in the @$$ but mine was making the same awkward squeaking noise. It needs to be replaced, eventually it will go out.
As for the key lock I have no idea, I'm in the same situation as you. I switched out to a new door and changed the key mechanism and now it wont turn al the way in the new door, don't know what to do.... grease/WD-40?

RE: Electric door lock problems
I have an 88Gt, the passengerDoor lockwill only open/close if I hit Driver side Door lock...you might want to consider throwing in some door lock actuators, there available at 50resto for like 40 bucks.

Try dw-40 for the key to turn more smoothly...
It helped me on my fox now it turns more easier...

RE: Electric door lock problems
If your door actuators are bad it will make the key hard to turn. If the actuators go out and the door is locked it will not unlock with the key. When I got my '90 the passanger door would not open due to this reason. I had to grab the plastic **** and pull like hell to get it to unlock.

RE: Electric door lock problems
i've actually had to change my lock acuators so many times i can do it in about ten minutes. i've tried a few different brands too but they don't seem to last more than a few months. i just bought ebay one for like $10 and seems to be ok for now. the cold weather doesnt help much right now though. yesterday i had to climb in through the hatch

Thanks for all the help, everyone just reinforced my thoughts. I seeems when looking for parts
for these cars on-line I kept finding the lock acuators, and it seems many people sell them so
I figured they might not be the best quailty. Great info it will help me moved forward thanks again
