Default Power Door Lock Switches

I have a 1988 Mustang GT with power windows and power locks. My power lock switches have stopped working. The power locks still work via the alarm remote. The car also locks when the engine starts and unlock when it is shut off like is usually does. The doors will not unlock or lock when using the switch on the driver side. The lock switch on the passenger side works but not the unlock switch. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!

Ya, I was wondering if it was maybe just time for some new switches. Thanks a lot for the help. I appreciate it.

Default RE: Power Door Lock Switches

ford likes to use what is called a 5-wire locking system. What this means is there are no relays in the system and the switches do all the work of actuating the lock. There is a master switch(the drivers side) and there is a slave(passenger side). Now in that 5-wire bundle there are two main control wires that are pink/yellow and pink/green, one is the lock wire and one is the unlock wire. If either of these two wires becomes disconnected the or has a bad contact in the switch(or the relays that are needed to be installed for your alarm) the master switch(the drivers side) will loose all control and only one side will work for the slave which is what you have.

So knowing that you have a bad connection on the unlock wire I would start by checking places where the contact could have become dirty or loose. Remove the switches from the hrns(there are two screws on the back that hold them) and clean the contacts of the switches and make sure when you re-insert the switch into the hrns that everything appears to have contact. If both of those looks good then you need to check the alarm relays. They are normally installed in either kick panel, or sometimes behind the dash speakers. You can try to track them down by the sound they make when you lock or unlock the vehicle from the remotes.
