Default Mechanical Tune or Chip Tune?

Alright guys.....I have a 89 5.0 (GT motorsport crate) with a Vortech Supercharger with 10 lbs. boost, 42# Inj. 255 lph pump with a Inline trex pump. I am going to get this tuned and the tuner said with this setup he can Mechanically tune it with Fuel Pressure and Timing. He said I'll be right on the threshold of my stock fuel lined and rail so if I go with anymore boost I need to upgrade the fuel system and then he would Chip it. Now another Tuner wanted to chip what I have. Oh I also need to send the MAF out to be calibrated for the 42# injectors. Which one would you guys go with? Which one is more reliable? Any input is greatly appreciated.

you wouldnt be considering having it "mechanically tuned" if you knew how much more power you will get by chipping it

I would definatly have a custom tune by flashing a chip.

You will be more or less guessing on wether or not your a/f is right without a custom tune.

That sounds odd, maybe because I'm not awake yet, but if you mess with timing and a/f and do not chip it, the adaptive learning will change those settings.

from personal experience i would go with the custom chip, youll see gains in power either way but the chip can help with rough idling, sputering and stalling. i build a 347 with afr 185s, tf track heat, scat crank and rods with je pistons, the cam is a custom grind with 540 lift. the most power i got with a mechanical tune was only 320 but with a sct custom chip i got 350, just make sure your computer is mounted and wont shake around or the cars not gunna run on the program

Also I am pretty sure if you get a chip made, they can make you MAF work with out a calibration.

that is correct, as long as the engines flow characteristics to not go beyond those of the MAF's resolution

Not trying to rob this person's thread, but I can understand wanting to have a custom chp made for a blower car but what about a N/A car? I have gone to two different shops and they both told me for my car I wouldn't see any more power at all with a custom chip, the only thing I look to gain is make the car easier to drive. Well I got my idling problems fixed and it's a pleasure to drive now, no worse that any othersmall motor with a healthy cam.Is this true? If it isn't why would they not at least want to sell me a chip and dyno time if it wasn't?
