its not really the heads, well to a point it is a head. the heads are resrictive so putting a massive cam in it will, and can make it slower than it was with the stock cam.

i suggest finding another cam

even if i have an edelbrock rpm upper and lower with 70mm MA and TB? ... i currently have the f303 in the stang and was given a brand new z303 for free so i was figguring why not swap em out.

here is where my problem is... i have 2 other friends in my club that have ran this z-cam before and they claim theve never had the clearance problem before so im torn on who to believe... anyone else out there have 2cents to put in?

Piston to valve clearance can vary from engine to engine, slightly.

If you have two friends that have ran the "Z" cam, how about ask them why they are not running it anymore

That camshaft is just not a good match for those highly limiting heads.

Technically, if they did not have issues, you may not have clearance issues, assuming they were running stock pistons, heads, as well.

One thing for sure, I would get some better springs and valvetrain to match.

Z303 - 228*/228* - 290*/290* - .552"/.552" - .345"/.345" - 112* - 107*/117* - Up to 6,500
Overlap: 66 degrees.
1.6 Rocker Ratio
Intake Opening: 7* BTDC
Intake Closing: 41* ABDC
Exhaust Opening: 51* BBDC
Exhaust Closing: 3* BTDC

you make a good point 5spd... they both had stock heads and piston (93 stock block's) like mine.but now mybuddy keith is running a 351 now and dave got a trickflow stroker kit with the cam the kit came with... thats why they are no longer running that cam.
