Might sound stupid but make sure your mechanic put enough fluid into the trans in the first place. If thats not the case Red Line makes a manual trans oil that works great, it got rid of most of my grinding

Just a thought, if you're looking at a bolt with a screw pattern, I think you're looking at the driver's side and it's probably not the fill plug. On every T5 I've ever looked at, that's the bolt that holds the reverse shift assembly in place. The one you want is on the other side of the trans. On the passenger side of the trans there should be two bolts with 3/8 square holes that you use, one to check, one to fill. If you do remove them and put them back in, just a word of warning, don't over tighten - you'll crack the case like some idiot did to my 90 before I bought it.
