Default De-stroking an engine

I know there is some discussion on this and i wanted to see what the theories were. So lets say that a person had a 302. most of us say that there is a HP limit of about 400 ish to the rear with 9 or 10:1ish C/R. ok now lets say we took that same block and destroked it and boosted it alot more. would there be any difference since the compression would be WAY lower. would you get more HP and life oput of the block? Now that being said i am assuming there is a way lower compression hight of the destroked piston than a stocked. I know this is probably a little all over the place but what do you guys think??

What are you sayin? Like instead of having a 302 crank, a 260 or 289?

Yeah something like that. usually....and ive never done it....but taking a 289 crank and some longer rods and appropriate pistions to makea 302 something like 255...i thinkk that may be a number for destroking a 289 but you get the idea. ok heres a example....take a 351m. its a 400 block destroked to 351 in theory you wold retain the strength of a 400 block with less cubes...wouldnt you think you could do that to any block and use a lot more juice or boost?

no.

but i've always said a 289 > 302. the benefits outweigh the small loss in cubic inches. anything smaller than that though and your just too damn small.

Well i was actually thinking about trying to de stroke a 351 to like 331ish. my question is would the HP the block could handle change with the de-stroked cubes annd compression

i dont think it would because your still talkin about stress points. Now theres a differnece between what the internals can take and what the block can take.302 block i hear claim of no more than 55 on stock block. There are valey girdles and some main stud girdles you can put in to help maby go a little more but i hear 500 on 302 block is limit. After that it starts to crack in i think the lifter valley.Im not sure about 351 motor bro.Weak 302 FTW woot haha.Goodluck on finding out what you need man frankenstien motors are tizight maby throw some vtak on it[sm=happy046.gif]

I wouldn't waste the time and $$$. In general, losing the stroke in a small engine (289,302, etc.) you are going to have to buzz it allot higher to make some power. The max hp a stock 302 block will handle, is not completely based on the power output alone. If you took 2 engines making the same hp, but one at 5900rpm and the other at 7500rpm. Which is going to hold up longer?

don't you know your mustang history!!!ford already tried it!!! was either in 80 or 81 that the mustang came with a 255 v-8 = utter failure!!!![:'(]......a damn honda was faster than a 255 equipped stang!![&:]

Remember that the cubic inch is not necessarily the determiner of power. The top-end pieces are huge.

Just look at the 281 CI (4.6L). They are outpowering the stock 5.0L's, because of the more efficient top-end pieces.

You cannot compare just cube to cube, when you know nothing of the top-end.

Nascar destroked (lost cubes) to increase power...

Hmm....

But, in our "302" cases, the more stroke, the better as far as power. Longevity is argueable.

i think DSS sells a long rod 302...still gives you 302 cubes but a much shorter stroke.....much higher R's......a buddy of mine at school had a destroked 454 made 1250hp at like 9800 or 10,800...cant remember, it was sumthing insane
