i'm needing a few tips on how to replace the handle on the outside of the drivers door. I know this is a common problem since i see this on the models i have. Any links to websites and tricks to complete the job would be greatly appreciated.

there are 2 1/4" rivets under the handle on the outside. You need to use a punch and knock the center out than use a 1/4" drill bit and drill out. I would take the door panel off to dissconnect it from the rod

Drill old rivets out...when you replace DH's DO NOT USE RIVETS even the Ford ones suck, you'll have trouble getting handle ontight...not worth it. Go to ace, home depot, whatever and get some 1 1/2bolts. Bring DH with you and find the bolt size that fills holes in DH best (tight fitting) and get some washers too. I did this months ago it took me about 30 min with no rush. I even painted heads of bolt black to match inside of hadle. This is good to if you plan on repainting and you don't have to get rivets again. Bolts cost $3.00 for rivets $3 each.

I completely agree, and it would be very hard to line them up straight with rivets.

You can look for some bolts that the heads are rounded with no provisions for a screwdriver or socket and they should work very well.

This lets you tighten them slowly and lets you line up the handle where it needs to be before the final tightening.
