I personally wasn't going to do it. I was just gonna pay a mechanic that I know who lives right next door to me 20 bucks to do it. I don't know if it will fix the situation or not, however its a good start in my eyes. After this, I will be taking it to a shop to have diagnositcs done.

Thanks for your input guys.

thanks matt, i most certainly will. I planned on having it done today, but im reschedueling for tomorrow since i over slept. Although i only got 2hrs of sleep, but thats besides the point haha.

I really hope this fixes my issue because its killing me getting 190-200 to a tank instead of 280-320. Killing me I tell you, killing me!!!

If you have any other ideas, let me know. Example o2 sensors, however those are newer, ECT "engine coolant tempature" sensor, which could be bad causing me to run in open/closed loop the entire time, thermostat, etc.

Dunno, but I need to find the solution, and I dont want to pay a shop 70 bucks for diagnositcs to find a "possible" solution.

I doubt it's because your t-stat is bad man. It's because it is SOOO cold. It isn't warming up because when you drive, even very slowly, it's blowing ice cold air through your radiator. I have a mechanical autometer temp gauge, it will only start registering when it's this cold after about 10-15 minutes of idling (which is 120 degrees). If i don't move at all it will slowly rise up to 180 ish, then if i move at all it will slowly lower.

Yep, that's about it for me too, 140-150. It's just unbelievably cold here, so don't worry about anything yet.

The job of the thermostat is to close the radiator out of the cooling loop until it reaches operating temperature.

I have luke warm air from my heater in 4 minutes and can reach normal operating temp in 10-15min. Regardless of the temperature outside.

Yep, if the thermostat is working properly, it will warm up and stay at the set point of the thermostat. Regardless of outside temp. @ 5 degrees outside, mine runs 192 to 195 idling or 75mph.

Will the temp of the coolant really make it not go into closed loop? I dont know in OBD1 Fords but in OBD2 chevys all that has to do is the o2 sensors to warm up to a certain point and then it will go into closed loop....I have seen them go into closed loop within 5 mins with 160 tstats
