What I meant about being skeptical if someone said "it tops out at 140" is: if this is to indicate how much power and what was done to the car with out giving you any information on how it was built is concerning. Is this person telling you this because he put a 140 speedo in and the last number is 140? Try and get some pics and a build list prior to purchase. Post them here to get a better evaluation of the car. I would hate to see someone waiste $2000. Fox bodies are "dime a dozen" in the $2000-$3000 range. You may be able to do better.

With a budget of $3k and your relative inexperience, I'd try my best to find an '87 and up GT/LX 5.0 and go from there. Not only will it likely have far fewer miles and be in better condition, there are more parts available, it is easier to pass smog and it will be easier to maintain and get better mileage. I've owned an '85 GT, two '92 GT's and a '98 GT (in addition to the classics that I have/had), and the '92 GT's were very good cars for the money.

Good luck!
Jeff

i looked at that kit for my 87 but found out that they tear up real easy and dont put out very much boost. Got toled it was a cheap kit and that my money could go alot further in other places. Just my thougths.

Well personaly im changing my EFI to carburetor. Im also on a budget, and for the amount of money i am able to put into my car right now this is going to make the most horespower. I am rebuilding the top end wich is cam, heads, intake, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, timing chain and gears, and a gasket kit. Im getting all this for around 1500. With the setup im going to use probably going to be about 350 hp. Also going to put in 3:73's. Should be running 8's in the 1/8 mile. And a 650 holley 4bbl.
